General contracting, site development and demolition specialists
Charley Toppino and Sons is a family-owned construction business built on the principles of hard work and a drive for success. Since founder Charley Toppino arrived in the U.S. and blazed the trail in the 1930s, we have completed hundreds of projects in the Florida Keys and South Florida. With more than 80 years in the industry, we have vast experience in all things construction.
With regard to general contracting, site development and demolition, we are uniquely able to provide construction management services or self-perform a wide variety of work. Our demolition crews work across the Keys and specialize in heavy commercial and residential mechanical demolition. A few of our latest demolitions include the Oceanside Marina complex, the Florida Keys Community College Marine Technology Building, and the St. Mary’s Basilica School Gym. Recent general contracting projects such as the Big Pine Pump Storage Facility for the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority and the Caroline Street Roadway Improvement Project for the City of Key West, showcase our diversity as contractors.
In addition to working in the government and municipal sector, we also offer construction services in the private sector. In 2012, CT&S was awarded the Stock Island Marina Village project in which we constructed a sprawling marina complex on Shrimp Road in Stock Island. The project was completed on time and on budget. Earlier this year, CT&S was awarded the Stock Island Marina Village Hotel project, a 100 unit development being constructed directly alongside the newly built marina complex.
The ability to evolve as a company throughout the decades stems from our extraordinary group of employees and their unrivaled pride in workmanship.
Founder Charley Toppino immigrated to the United States from Italy with an unparalleled work ethic and a desire to achieve success.
In the mid-1930s, he founded Charley Toppino & Sons. After a few years working in the American Northeast, Charley moved to Florida with plans to assemble a construction crew and begin working on infrastructure projects. They settled in Central Florida for a brief time until they heard news that there was an abundance of roadway and bridge work in the Florida Keys that required skilled contractors. Following Charley’s arrival to the Keys in the late 1930’s, Charley Toppino and Sons began working on projects from large to small. The company had earned an honest reputation in the area for its quality of workmanship and ability to complete the most challenging projects.
By 1964, the growing family business was completing projects for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Navy, the Army, the Coast Guard, Monroe County, the City of Key West, private development groups and international interests. In 1966, Charley Toppino and Sons participated in the construction of the Pan-American Highway in Costa Rica. In the six-year joint venture, they partnered in the construction of a vast 202-mile section that stretched from the capital, San Jose, to the Panamanian border. The project had an estimated contract value of $105 million.
In 1997, Monroe Concrete Products, a subsidiary company, was founded. Monroe Concrete Products supplies ready mix concrete from Marathon to Key West. With FDOT-certified batch plants on Rockland Key and Big Pine Key, Monroe Concrete Products is able to service projects of all sizes.
We continue to progress as a leading provider of general contracting, site development, and demolition services in the Keys. Please view our portfolio of recent projects.
